It started with the picture giving a kind of representation of “Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.” (Psalm 124:7) in my heart.
You know that phrase, “That was close”
It can almost explain a dimension of peace…. Like “that was close but not close enough to harm me.”
Peace, is not a state of inaction (not doing anything)… But a state of calm, rest, tranquillity or serenity …
For the Christian, Peace is like a paradox.
Because, the way we experience it or understand (better) is in times of restlessness (storms), and valued thereafter. Not that we don’t experience peace till times of woes, not at all…
Often where there is Peace, Joy is not too far away.
I have often seen peace as guard, like the way you are secured around a security guard knowing he won’t let harm come your way…
So, for instance, You just finished a discussion and you feel uneasy or kind of uncomfortable. You are simply not at peace… And if you check your heart further, you’d likely find that something said or implied during that discussion didn’t sit well with Holy Spirit. And you need to be corrected or rebuked for it.
It is safe to say that when Peace is lost, a man is unsafe ( prone to harm or attack)
Another way I see peace is as a Guide.
So you want to make a decision and there you are feeling stuck “should I do it, should I not do it… should I take that Job, or not, marry Bode or not take on that project or not… Wear that dress or not? (Yes, it could be as little as that)..” If you are calm down enough to seek If there is Peace about intention, you’d get your answer.
More so, I have found that it’s possible to manufacture a kind of Peace for yourself when you are unsure. And you just keep trying to convince yourself that what you did or about to do is alright.
The truth about Peace from God over an issue is that You are settled by His response and not that you sell a reason why you want to do to yourself or try to convince yourself that you have “peace”.
“Peace, I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives.Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” – Jesus Christ.
